Les Is More--Delays That Is
By Ed Driscoll · October 5, 2004 04:33 PM
· Oh, That Liberal Media!
Les Moonves, the co-president of CBS parent company Viacom is delaying the results of the internal investigation of CBS until after November 2nd. "Obviously, it should be done probably after the election is over so that it doesn’t affect what’s going on", he told a Goldman Sachs media conference in New York. RatherGate writes: Here is a good question: why would the results of the investigation affect the election? Is this a passive admission that there was collusion between one of the candidates for President and they don’t want that to hurt that candidate before the election?Jim Geraghty writes: Frankly, we already know the results of this investigation will tie in directly to the presidential campaign. Reportedly, Bill Burkett told Mary Mapes he wouldn't give her the memos until she helped get him in touch with Kerry campaign officials. And Charles Johnson notes: This means that all those people—Mapes, Heyward, and Rather—who were responsible for this utter fiasco will still be reporting the news, right on through the elections. What a joke.Unless you're an employee at CBS who works under them: The message from CBS suits is clear--anybody who complains will get tougher consequences than Rather, Mapes, or Heyward has, and so most employees now just want the story to go away.Somewhere, a man with heavy five o'clock shadow is laughing his Milhouse off.
